Welcome!

I know that it isn’t too difficult for any of us to sometimes feel hurt,  scared, down, lost, vulnerable, or “not good enough” as we navigate the ups and downs of life, especially in an increasingly complex and ailing world.  On top of that, we can find ourselves facing difficulties and circumstances that we could have never imagined, especially as we age. Psychotherapy can help us slowly make sense of the past and ourselves so that we can encounter the present moment with more awareness, freedom and aliveness. I see it less as a “quick fix” or way to rid ourselves of unwanted parts but rather a way to become more fully, more deeply and more uniquely human.  With an abiding love of the arts I often work with sensitive and creative individuals, many of whom have histories of abuse or neglect and are trying to make sense of their past and present lives in order to find a greater sense of freedom and comfort within their own skin and in the world.

Individual Depth Psychotherapy

Typically, I work with individual adults for long term Jungian oriented depth psychotherapy with a special focus upon cultivating mindfulness and awareness, listening deeply to the particulars of each client in order to navigate the course of therapy..

Areas of Specialization

Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP) and Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS)
Originally termed by Elaine Aron, high sensitivity is not a diagnosis, but rather a temperament trait, and more recently has been found to be a type of neurodivergence, termed Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS). As HSP’s we often take in the world around us more deeply and feel our emotions more intensely. It isn’t always easy being an HSP in this world as we can be more prone to feeling overstimulated, anxious and down. However, it can also be a source of great strengths, such as empathy, a heightened sensitivity to beauty and art.
Grief, Aging and Loss
Aging, sickness and death are termed in Buddhism as the “divine messengers’”, and are often seen as inevitable reminders of the impermanence of life. Eventually these messengers come to all of us. Often they are unwanted and painful. However they can also point us toward greater wholeness, meaning, and soul.
Complex Trauma
When our early histories contain repetitive neglect and/or trauma, especially with a parent or sibling, we can sometimes develop an array of strategies and coping mechanisms to get by and survive. Often there comes a point when they don’t work so well anymore and we are moved to seek additional help in order to learn new ways of being with ourselves and others. Often unbiddenly and without necessarily even wanting it, life and our psyches compel us toward a whole new path of transformation and growth.
Creative Individuals
My practice has drawn in many different creative and artistic individuals, which has been fortunate enough to give me many years of experience working with people that live deeply creative lives, whether working directly in the arts or simply valuing their own creative expression. My background in expressive arts therapy lends itself well to this, and though I no longer engage with the arts directly in the therapeutic process I do see therapy itself as a strikingly creative and alive process.
